Many homeowners ask us these questions regarding these two very popular sidings. As your custom home builder, we are responsible for the education process of walking each of our clients through choosing the materials appropriate for their home. In general, we have found brick to be the most maintenance-friendly siding available today.
Its porosity allows the building envelope to absorb and evaporate water when required. Additionally, there are an endless amount of brick and mortar combinations available to accomplish multiple types of architectural styles.
Hardie Plank is a Cementous product which is superior to wood sidings used in the past. Hardie Plank Siding is more maintenance friendly than traditional wood siding but is less maintenance friendly than brick siding. Hardie Plank siding will need to be painted with a quality exterior grade paint every 7-10 years depending on the site location and conditions.
Both products have proven track records of reliability and longevity as a premier siding solution. As with any product, proper installation and maintenance will result in long-lasting beauty to your custom home.
